In order to achieve a fully functional staff attack alarm in a secure hospital or A&E ward, staff alarm systems would center on infra-red detectors as the primary sensors. This would be installed in the ceilings of all areas considered to be high risk, such as anywhere patients come into contact with the facility. After that, the infra-red detectors are reconnected to a controller, which maintains a constant vigilance for IR light. The staff members all have their own personal fobs, which, depending on the needs of the location, can be programmed to identify the user or not. If a member of the staff is assaulted or feels like they are being threatened, they are instructed to activate the fob. This would result in an explosion of invisible infra-red light throughout the area.
